Al-Mutakabbir
The Supreme
Prophetic Traditions
“Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: 'Pride is My cloak and greatness is My garment. Whoever competes with Me in either of them, I will throw into the Fire.'”
Al-Mutakabbir alone deserves supreme greatness and pride—it is exclusively His attribute. Any human who claims it commits a grave sin.
“No one who has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.”
Greatness and supreme pride are exclusively for Al-Mutakabbir—when humans claim these attributes, it is arrogance that leads to ruin.
Scholarly Insights
Al-Mutakabbir is the One who is rightfully proud and supreme. Unlike human arrogance, which is a false claim to greatness, Allah's pride is the truth—He alone is truly supreme. For humans, the share in this name is to be proud only of their faith and servitude to Allah.
Al-Mutakabbir sees everything else as small and insignificant compared to His majesty. This is not unjust, because it is the truth—everything truly is infinitely small before Him.
